About me

I've ridden nearly all of my life and have owned and trained my own horses since I was a kid. I live with my family on a small ranch in Northern New Mexico. We have five horses--an Andalusian, a Percheron, an Arabian, an Appaloosa and an opinionated Quarter Horse mare.

I'm an avid trail rider and especially enjoy back country riding in some of New Mexico's pristine mountains with my family. Once I raise my children, I'd like to become a Long Rider. I began equestrian vaulting in my early forties, much to the shock of some of my friends and family, and have even won a couple of ribbons. There's a vaulting barrel in my garage and a Percheron vaulting-horse-in-training in my barn.

I'm teaching my own children to ride, and have taught many of my nieces and nephews over the years. Children and horses are a wonderful combination! I have a keen interest in rider fitness, especially given my vaulting. I practice pilates and yoga, along with dance conditioning to stay in shape for vaulting.

I'm a gnostic, seeking to be awake in a world that is constantly trying to lull me to sleep. An early Gnostic source, Excerpta de Theodoto, defines this gnosis as the knowledge of "who we were, what we have become; where we were, whereinto we have been thrown; whither we hasten, whence we are redeemed; what is birth and what rebirth." I tend to see the divine more in the barn, the pasture, the mountains, and in other people, than I do in a pew in a church.

My horses have enhanced me physically, spiritually, and mentally. I'm very interested in horse and spirit. You could even say that a horse saved my life once.

In my professional life, I've been a web developer and an e-Learning professional since the whole dotcom thing began. Currently, I'm making my living as a recruiter.

I come from a long line of story tellers.

It seems to follow that horsewoman + computer geek + storyteller = horse blogger
